Dr. Karen Effrem

A TRIBUTE TO KAREN EFFREM, M.D

Karen Effrem, M.D., President of Education Liberty Watch, passed away on February 12, 2020 in Port Charlotte, Florida at the age of 60, after a ten-year battle with breast cancer.

Following is a brief overview of her life and her work, though it is difficult to do justice to the accomplishments and service she provided during her time on this earth.

Dr. Effrem received her undergraduate degree in Pharmacy from Purdue University, a medical degree from Johns Hopkins University and pediatric training from the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Effrem was always the tireless advocate for children. Before founding Education Liberty Watch, she served ten years on the board of the Minnesota nonprofit, EdWatch, as its expert resource person on issues relating to government control of early childhood, institutionalization of radical outcome-based Baby Ed attitudes/values/beliefs standards, the dangers of home visiting programs in establishing government as the authority over the up-bringing of children, parental rights, local control of education and health, the over-drugging of children, and freedom from psychological manipulation through proposed universal mental health screening of students.

Dr. Effrem researched, provided in-depth briefings, lectured, and frequently testified on state and federal legislation. Her positive impact on Minnesota legislation was acknowledged by all who understood the dangerous path state and federal government entities are taking toward establishing a national workforce system of government control over our young, from birth on.

During those years, Dr. Effrem also served on the boards of Alliance for Human Research Protection.

After EdWatch closed operation in 2010, Dr. Effrem founded Education Liberty Watch and co-founded the Florida Stop Common Core Coalition, becoming its Executive Director. She was also appointed the National Education Issues Chairman of Eagle Forum.

In January of 2019, when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced by executive order that Florida’s Common Core standards would be eliminated, Effrem immediately began assisting with the rewrite of the Florida math standards.

In addition to Minnesota and Florida, Dr. Effrem drafted and analyzed legislation in other states, including Texas and Utah.

Dr. Effrem became recognized as a national authority on data privacy violations within the Common Core standards, psychological profiling via mandated tests, government career tracking, the dangerous Social Emotional Learning (SEL) system being embedded in education systems, the massive drugging of children with psychotropic medication, invasive data collection systems, and the move toward a federal ‘planned economy.’ She spoke at numerous state, national, and international conferences.
